I WAS looking through some York City archive pictures on The Press website and noticed this picture from 1971.

The player on the far left was called Bobby Sibbald.

I worked for British Gas and at that time was an apprentice service engineer. I was travelling with an engineer in a van in Dringhouses and we passed a service bus stop.

Sibbald was standing there with his kit bag. The engineer knew Sibbald and asked what he was doing, knowing that City were travelling that day to Southampton for an FA Cup replay.

He said he had missed the number five bus to the station and would miss the train.

He hopped in the gas van and we took him to the station, where this picture must have been taken.

How times have changed.
