I READ your article on John Snow (The Press, March 24) with great interest as I am descended from his younger brother, William.
Your writer notes that one of the brothers ran a Temperance Hotel.
This is a family legend which surfaced a number of years ago, but it is based on an understandable mistake.
There was indeed a William Snow who ran a Temperance Hotel in Low Ousegate in the 1851 Census, but at the same time, John’s brother actually ran the Acorn in St Martin’s Lane.
I don’t know who mixed the two Williams, but it was a long time ago.
