I AM writing in response to the article relating to the incident at St Paul’s Out of School Club (The Press, March 23).

The girls being locked in a dark club for two hours should never have happened, but I hope that this can be put down to an unfortunate mistake which is currently being investigated.

Our child has been with St Paul’s Out of School Club for nearly two years and the facility has been key in his development as an individual.

There is a culture of respect which the staff encourage, creating a happy community of children who can create, build, role-play as they wish.

Children have the freedom to choose an activity which suits them at that time, guided and overseen by the staff.

The club understands the fundamentals and importance of play in shaping children’s development and personality.

There is always a thoughtful and colourful rota of activities during holidays which our child looks forward to.

As parents, we have always felt that the staff - including the former manager - have been personable, supportive and have put our child first.

The club is an important asset which is integrated in to the neighbouring primary schools, and it would be a great shame if it were to close as a result.

We hope that this matter can be resolved swiftly.
