I WAS somewhat uncomfortable recently when a York Member of Parliament’s surgery was taken over by the group York For Europe.

It was ill-judged and misguided. Was it just a cheap publicity stunt - which must have been disconcerting at the time for Julian Sturdy?

At what point does it move from reasonable to crossing the line and become intimidating?

What about the inconsideration to other waiting constituents?

Given the sensitivity of MPs meeting with the public after serious incidents - and the fact that 50 cases of serious threats on the cesspit that is (un)social media are being investigated by the police - and our other York MP, Rachael Maskell, is one of the recipients of these vile threats?

Now, York For Europe are castigating Julian Sturdy for not holding public meetings regarding their hard Brexit concerns accusing him of being “frightened”.

What on earth would it achieve? The British people voted to leave the EU and Article 50 will be triggered on March 29.

Britain had to sort out Europe’s freedom twice through bloodshed and war so I think we can handle this exercise. so let the Government negotiate for the UK over the next two years. There will be a time for debate but it’s not now.

In 1975, I voted to join the Common Market not an unelected federalist state.
