CHARLES HUTCHINSON’S theatre crit of The King And I was spot-on, but did not appear to mention the fantastic orchestra led by musical director Philip Redding.
They were never outdoing the singers, always with them, unlike so many TV shows.
The whole production was totally outstanding, with many of the audience in tears – me among them in the final scene.
I well remember Yul Brynner and Deborah Kerr in The King And I so many years ago.
It did not touch me so much then. Maybe it is nostalgia and old age now.
Everything about the show deserves all the plaudits and more, so well done to all concerned.
The generosity given to the audience with a magnificent curtain call of voices, costumes, colour. Fabulous.
