I’M pleased my letter evoked good memories in rugby for Ken Walker (Letters, March 13).

You are correct that this was my era. I started with Hunslet Juniors RL (old Parkside) in 1954.

My parents came to York in 1955 and I played for Carr Lane and Rowntrees RL, mostly against Imperial Athletic (Imps) and Heworth.

Then because of age restrictions, I went to York RI RUFC from 1958 to 1977.

Ironically my first RI captain was, yes, a Ken Walker. Plus I played for RAF Dishforth from 1960-62 (National Service).

Sid Leader and especially Reg Coultas were very much admired and respected on both sides of the Ouse.

I think Ken will remember some of the following York players who, on November 22, 1958, played RI in the fourth round of the Yorkshire Cup at Cow Pat Stadium.

Remember, Ken, the dead ball area was the maximum 25 yards (in old money) so one had to be alert to this.

RI triumphed 14-0 that day.

The York team was: P Johnson, R Dealtry, G T Raines, A Young, M Hutton, I McGrath, G Harrison, M Bartrum, Reg Coultas, M Bradford, B Pratt, J M Wood (captain), C J H Milne-Day, I G C Denoon, and you will remember the great Don Butler.

I hope this gets your memory banks working, Ken.
