THERE seems to be little thought these days (in the onward rush for more and more houses) as to where those houses will actually be built.

Flood plains, traffic flows, local amenities? Who cares. Just get those houses built.

A good example of this “get em built” fixation is happening right here in Stamford Bridge.

The through road (the A166) has nose-to-tail traffic hold-ups, first thing in the morning and in the evening when people are homeward bound.

In summer it’s horrendous, with coast-bound traffic all the way back to Gate Helmsley and beyond. Why such hold-ups?

Because of the traffic light-controlled single track bridge.

Another 300-plus houses are being built, yet little thought appears to have been put into the problems such a large number of houses will generate.

All the extra cars from the new estate will cause huge traffic problems yet the house builders were given permission to go ahead and build.

Surely a bypass or an extra bridge should have been built before those housing estates were started.

Easingwold used to have a terrible through-traffic problem, then the bypass was built. Problem solved.

Stamford Bridge, with its new estates, is not only going to have a traffic problem. There will also be schooling and, quite probably, medical clinic difficulties too.

Will the current sewage plant be able to cope? It must have been checked out because those extra houses have got the go-ahead.

Things are coming to a pretty pass. Not.
