WE recently attended a show at the York Barbican and had to submit to a handbag search by security in a yellow jacket.
I then had my two unopened water bottles confiscated and placed in a corner with several other plastic bottles.
Numerous signs stated “no phones, no photographs and only plastic containers in the auditorium”.
I was informed I could collect them on exit, as it was a new policy.
Once inside, the bars were open and people were taking alcohol and fizzy drinks to their seats, even drinking from bottle necks.
On leaving, I recovered my bottles and asked a staff member to explain the confiscations.
He vaguely said it was to ensure only safe things entered the premises.
Could someone explain to me the dangers of sealed water bottles? People now enter sports centres, cinemas and theatres carrying water, so how does the Barbican explain its actions?
