I SYMPATHISE with Michael Knapton’s comments re “York has got to saturation point” (Letters, February 15).

At least before I get caught in a traffic jam, I have to go to the top of my road. He only has to step out of his front door and he is in one.

Unfortunately, it is not only York which has reached this point, but most of the rest of the country.

Lancaster is not a city familiar to most York residents. The last time I visited there I said to my wife it is very unlikely I will be coming again.

Any time I go half of England (and elsewhere) seems to be there. It, like York, is also a student city.

They have a one-way system looping the city and it is like a race track. If you miss your turn off you end up going around and around to find it again.

Getting out of Sainsbury’s car park is more luck than good judgment.

Some countries have tried to control their population with mixed success.

Under Tony Blair’s government our population was increased to far greater numbers than expected with uncontrolled immigration.

If it is any comfort to Michael Knapton, last year I ended up in A&E with a life-threatening illness and the ambulance was at my house in ten minutes.

I received first class care and I just hope that service is there for future generations.
