WHILE not knowing the minutiae of rugby union’s laws of the game (Letters, February 11), the thing that spoils my viewing is that referees at international level not only know all these laws, they are determined to show everyone watching that they do so and consequently blow their whistle for even the perceived most tiny of infringements.

This always leads to a disjointed, stop-start spectacle where flowing rugby is at a premium and the ball is actually in play for less than half the game.

Thank heavens that lovers of the handling game always know that they will be content watching rugby league.
