KAMRAN HUSSAIN of the Liberal Democrats states the people of York Outer voted remain (Letter, February 15) and Rachael Maskell of Labour repeatedly states the people of York Central voted remain.

Can they please supply their data as this will be news to all those involved in the count where both seats were counted as one and either York Central or York Outer could well have voted leave.

What is not in doubt is a majority government was elected promising an EU referendum and a majority of MPs voted for it. A majority of voters in the referendum then voted for it in a clear binary choice to leave the EU.

It is a funny tolerance that Labour and the Lib Dems advocate when it is based on intolerance of voters’ wishes.

To say tolerance is based on a wish to be in the EU is an absurd simplification and insult to the 90 per cent of world countries which are not in the EU.
