A RECENT study has revealed “Pensioners are now better off than those in work” (The Press, February 13).
This is iniquitous because not only are today’s pensioners earning and saving more (thanks to occupational pensions and house ownership denied to the younger generation), they also pay less tax (no National Insurance).
Unfortunately, they also absorb most of the resources of the NHS and care system, also paid for by the working taxpayer.
Other side effects include the decline of bus services (particularly rural) as most passengers are “entitled” to free bus passes.
The only solution to this is for younger taxpayers to get political. They must mobilise and vote in the next general election for a party that also represents their interests.
