EVERY few years our elected representatives have this collective blind spot and an idea that they plough on with regardless of common sense or cost.

The latest wheeze is to build a multi-billion pound rail line to save 15 minutes on a journey from London to Birmingham and onwards to the frozen north.

Instead of upgrading what we have already, and improving the service the rail companies offer, this lemming-like behaviour is sold to us as a must have or we will all suffer by losing this 15 minutes.

The Prime Minister has to work with the MPs on offer in the Commons for her Cabinet, and the person she chose to push this plan forward left a disaster at the Ministry of Justice, with many wrong decisions which have crippled the prison service, lowered morale and taken away legal aid.

The cracks are starting to appear in the transport department.

Time for a rethink and reshuffle Mrs May.
