WHY are we still watching BBC and ITV regional programmes in blurred standard definition here in Yorkshire?

High definition has been out for years so why are we enduring fuzzy TV?

There’s an abundance of beautifully shot, pin sharp high definition programmes in drama, wildlife, sport and live studio but, when it comes to our important regional programmes with ITV Calendar and BBC Look North and Inside Out, we have to switch over and go back to the dark ages.

I’m a great believer and advocate of regional television and have been associated with it for over 50 years, but why is it Cinderella all these years on?

It should have far more investment from the BBC and ITV as it has turned out good broadcasters, cameramen and directors.

Not only are the transmission standards poor, but the programme content has also declined as both channels have turned them into reactive one-and-a-half minute items.

It’s important that serious news is covered, but they were far better in a magazine style that was serious at the top, followed by longer, well crafted and filmed items that reflected our great county.

Now everything is doom and gloom - which 99 per cent of the population don’t face (thank God).

Surely, BBC and ITV need to invest more and cover a positive side of life - reflecting the good things of Yorkshire; its beauty, history and people?
