I AM delighted that City of York Council have been chosen to receive a share of a £1.2 billion pot from the Government to take part in a one-year trial to use high definition cameras to identify potholes before they appear.
A box brownie camera may be a cheaper option to take more useful pictures of the severity of the existing potholes before we start looking for those lurking under the road surface.
The current system of repairing the damage is in urgent need of review by the council’s highways experts.
It is a complete waste of time and money to throw a shovel full of asphalt into the existing hole and hit it with a whacker plate.
While we are aware that funding is a huge problem, it would make economic sense to do a proper job in the first place.
I do think with little more thought that this could be achieved.
A hole repaired that reappears within a week is a pointless exercise.
