YORK Labour Party’s latest newsletter claims that our Conservative-led administration is doing nothing about the city’s housing crisis.

Yet, at last week’s area planning committee – a committee that should be non-party political - the Labour and Green members voted against a proposal to build three starter homes on Clifton Moor, on the grounds that the area – in Kettlestring Lane, close to Clifton Moor Gate - lacks facilities and is unsuitable for housing.

I don’t know where they were looking when they left the site meeting.

Tower Court, with its supermarket, food outlets, health centre and pharmacy is just across the road, and the Clifton Moor retail park, with many more facilities, is a few minutes’ walk away.

I attended as a ward councillor and spoke in favour of this development which, although small, will offer some hope to first time buyers.

Fortunately for those looking to buy starter homes, the rest of the committee approved the application.

I for one will continue to support the development of affordable housing in York, unlike the Labour councillors who say one thing then do the opposite.
