I HAVE seen that the proposition for mayor for “South Yorkshire/Chesterfield” had legally fallen through.
Well, let’s run up the Yorkshire flags with glee.
Small, insignificant (by comparison) areas of Yorkshire would have trouble standing alone among other similar areas within our great county.
I’ve also heard unwelcome rumours of allegiances between York and Leeds.
If we have to have a mayoral system in Yorkshire, then the only acceptable policy would be that we as a county should stay together. From Hull to Huddersfield and from Sheffield to Scarborough.
Over the years there have been many attempts to disband our county.
We have seen the debacle of north and south Humberside; we now have four “ridings” (north, south, east and west) as well as losing Middlesbrough to Teesside.
Yorkshire has a sound infrastructure, with our natural resources, world class manufacturing base and a future we can all look forward to.
So come on you Yorkists, fight for your county.
If we left it to the politicians we would have pockets of brass dotted around Yorkshire, within the towns and cities, leaving the vast rural areas to their own fate.
One Yorkshire, one mayor.
