Let’s get behind cinema revival

IT is fantastic news to hear the Odeon will be reopened once again, (It's the Reel deal, The Press, June 19). This is truly a wish come true for me.

I was involved in the campaign to keep it open. It was a very sad evening when the doors closed on the last night.

I am pleased that Reel Cinema has seen the potential benefits of having a good-quality cinema at a central location in York.

I hope our local councillors will make every effort to support Reel Cinema in its refurbishment plans and ensure that the protection of the building is balanced with the needs of the people and advantages of having another cinema in the centre of the city.

This is a second chance for council leaders. Let's hope they do not make a pig's ear of it again. Now we have sorted out the Odeon, can we sort out having a swimming pool back in the city centre?
