FURTHER to the debate on the upgrade of the A1237 outer ring road and City of York Council’s decision to throw more money at the roundabouts to improve traffic flow is a complete waste of time and money.
From leaving the A64 on to the A1237 to the Hopgrove roundabout there are ten roundabouts that hold traffic flow, and how much money has been wasted on the A59 and A19 roundabouts without success?
We suffered months of disruption at the Hopgrove junction and it was obvious the traffic management team had not heard the Yorkshire saying, “You can’t get a quart into a pint pot”.
You have traffic coming off a dual carriageway on to a single track road and it is a recipe for disaster.
There are calls for the A1237 to be dualled. Well, if that was to happen you would have four lanes of standing traffic instead of two.
Someone is going to have to bite the bullet and get rid of the roundabouts and put flyovers and underpasses, which should have been done in the first place to maintain a traffic flow.
