I LIVE in Dunnington and am disturbed that some bus services have recently been withdrawn.
One example, there is no number 10 bus to Dunnington at 9.28pm, so now those who have meetings or events in York must wait around until 10pm to get home, many meeting venues having closed around 9pm.
I’m much concerned about climate change and therefore either cycle or rely on buses.
If local governments are serious about tackling climate change and preventing gridlocks on city streets and access roads, surely a sufficient bus service should be provided, even if that means charging a slightly higher fare or increasing local taxes.
I believe that City of York Council should increase subsidies to our bus services so that people can be enticed out of their cars and still get into York for night-time meetings and events.
This would be a (small) step toward tackling global warming.
