AS an ex-bellringer, sadly never Minster standard, I always believed and still do, that church bells speak the language of the Christian faith.
Our beautiful Minster bells, rung by delicated volunteers, are now prevented from doing this, by the Dean and Chapter.
It would seem that the Dean refuses to trade dialogue with the 30 dedicated ringers and bring about a resolution to this appalling situation.
Those responsible clearly know nothing about the chemistry needed to build a ringing team, and should hang their heads in shame at the un-Christian treatment they have dealt to those they have axed.
Senior church leaders should now intervene to reverse this decision, with grown-up dialogue to remedy any issues that may need rectifying. There is more than one chapter in a book, perhaps we need to move to a new Chapter at York Minster.
