I AM absolutely disgusted with the treatment of the bell ringers at York Minister.

I think it’s taken them long enough to decide that they need to ensure safety and ensure the bell ringers are trained.

As for the Minster spokeswoman who didn’t think it “un-Christian” and it was all treated with compassion; who is she trying to kid?

These people have been the ringing the bells probably for some years voluntarily and bringing joy to all and sundry in York.

Now we have to go without because the Dean and Chapter want professionals who are fully trained.

This is not very Christian and to treat the bell ringers in such a way does not belong in York Minster.

This attitude would not look out of place in the board room.

Just because someone is paid does not make them any better than those who volunteer, and why pay someone when you have a group of people who enjoy ringing the bells and giving joy to all, and are as professional as you can get?

Surely the money would be better spent on maintaining York Minster.

I am deaf, listening with a cochlear implant, and listening to York Minster bells was a joy to behold.

Now I am being denied this. Surely they could have left things as they were until they actually had something in place instead of denying us the joy of the York Minster bells.
