YORK Minster have summarily dispensed with the services of all the volunteer campanologists (The Press, October 13).

There is now an “appeal” for new volunteers.

With the mysterious ways that theology and its opposites work, if the loud ding-dong is soon heard again ringing out across York, who is to say that it is not the work of, to use a phrase seldom heard these days, “Hell’s bells”.
