WELL, well. Christianity shows its darker side once more. The bell ringers shown the door, albeit all volunteers (The Press, October 13).

The bells are an integral part of the city of York and its minster.

The bells were placed in churches, abbeys and minsters for a specific purpose to let the worshippers aware of a service, a warning or to celebrate.

What gives them the right to deny the people of York this age old tradition?

Love thy neighbour, but not if they are ringing the bells.

Changes do have to be made sometimes but not to the detriment of the Minster, which is what this is.

I look forward to the furore which will no doubt ensue from this and fervently hope to see the bell ringers re-installed to the bell tower.
