CITY of York Council now say it will take years to clear the drains in York after the terrible flooding (The Press, September 8).

Many years ago I remember the rivers being dredged and the sand was collected by local builders. But apparently the council deem this to expensive to do.

Surely dredging would be a practical solution again instead of spending thousands of pounds trying to unblock and clear drains.

Dredging would benefit local builders and cause less disruption in the city.
