CLLR Andy D’Agorne displays a rather simplistic approach in his calls (The Press, September 5) for more electric buses and a more frequent bus service to Derwenthorpe. He fails to explain exactly who is going to pay for these improvements.

The Derwenthorpe service presumably uses a bus no longer required for the little-used and now discontinued service 27.

Electric buses cost far more than diesels and those currently used on Park&Ride services were purchased with the aid of a government grant.

The question of who pays for new batteries in a few years’ time is as yet unanswered – the taxpayer, perhaps?

I agree that pollution needs to be tackled somehow, and bus operators have been investing in low emission engines for several years now, but perhaps Cllr D’Agorne would tell us who will pay for his preferred solutions?

Is he advocating higher council tax, increased bus fares or the Magic Money Tree so beloved of socialist politicians?
