I WAS pleased to see that the new Chancellor Philip Hammond has now given guarantees that the Treasury is going to support EU-funded projects in the wake of the Brexit vote.

It was at the last council meeting in July that a Liberal Democrat motion calling on the Government to give assurances over investment in York and Yorkshire was passed with cross-party support.

I for one am hopeful that the Chancellor will continue to pay such close attention to our meetings.

However, the Government still has much more work to do in addressing the Brexit fallout.

We still need measures addressing the continued uncertainty over the future of regional regeneration funding, and the status of EU nationals who have made York their home.

I’m sure many of us will be watching closely to see what answers the Government can come up with on these and other issues.
