AS A former resident of York with relatives and friends in the city I visit on many occasions.

In my humble opinion the streets of York have never been cleaner (Letters, August 23).

Of course at this time of year rubbish bins do fill up more quickly.

That isn’t the council’s fault and they do empty the bins as quickly as possible.

I often marvel at the bin lads and the thankless task they have to endure.

The root cause of the rubbish in York is the behaviour of many of the visitors, munching whatever in the streets and their leftovers and plastic bottles get left anywhere.

As far as City of York Council becoming millionaires is concerned, they are millionaires.

It is multimillionaires they would become if they caught and fined all the rubbish dumpers.

Never mind, holiday season will soon be over and dog fouling season can take over.

All manual council workers should be weighed and given their weight in krugerrands.
