I SEE that one of our universities has begun to expand yet again - this time to provide a Piazza Learning Centre, at a cost of a mere £27 million - presumably from the university’s own coffers.

The universities, by and large, seem to have plenty of brass nowadays - unlike most local authorities. It must be the student fees.

Daniel Willers’ article (The Press, August 24) gives me the impression that this development will provide the international pathway college with flexible learning spaces, and will include two laboratories, a 350-seat auditorium, a 100-seat lecture theatre, a 300-seat restaurant and admin buildings, apparently for the training of overseas students to do something or other - I’m not sure what.

The question is twofold: how many additional students will this facility attract, and, more importantly, where will they live?

There is no mention,in the article, of halls of residence, or accommodation.

Perhaps the university will enlighten us?
