YORK streets have become spoiled by litter.

Not only unsightly cigarette butts, food wrappers, drink cans and bottles, but chewing gum, dog poo, and sputum.

These loathsome health hazards make walking our streets an unpleasant experience. The council removing litter bins is one cause.

York’s many grime encrusted street signs are a blight.

Most people’s homes and gardens are kept in good, clean, often immaculate, condition. Wouldn’t it be gratifying if some of those good housekeepers took it upon themselves as a civic duty to take a bucket of soapy water, brushes and cloths and washed their street name signs?
