GEOFF ROBB is totally wrong to state that equestrians, archers etc do not need to train as do other sportsmen and women (Letters, August 17).
He has obviously never ridden or trained a horse for competition. The dressage riders need strength, as do showjumpers to maintain their sport.
Control in dressage must take its toll on body and mind so fitness is imperative.
The same with archery – strength and stamina has to be maintained throughout competition. I compliment all the Olympic sportsmen and women for dedication to their sport and commentators too, whose knowledge of each is quite outstanding.
Just enjoy, Mr Robb, and stop analysing every move.
There has been much criticism of presenters’ slips of the tongue, but what does it matter? It causes a laugh and releases the tension.
It was a magnificent Games and there was sportsmanship throughout.
