York famously has a housing crisis, but there is just as much need for residential care homes. Now, after many months in the planning, council officials are looking for a company to build a new one on the former Burnholme Community College site.
Not before time. Previous plans for a super care home were scrapped on cost grounds after years of work and that has left an impasse.
This new home is therefore urgently needed. Let’s hope a developer is found quickly and that building work can begin as soon as possible.
There will be many people in York watching progress with interest.
