I CANNOT believe that City of York Council is considering wasting money on this goose pooper machine, another few thousand pounds to be wasted (The Press, August 19).

Cllr Nigel Ayres has said the problem will not go away overnight and he is right but this machine is not a long-term solution.

As soon as the machine has been used, the droves of geese will be back probably following the machine around.

Will the machine be used every day?

How many times a day and will it be used in other areas such as Huntington Road near the Monkgate roundabout and Wigginton Pond etc?

I’m sure your readers could name a few more places.

This will be an expensive exercise, the machine will need maintenance, staff to operate it etc.

The only way is to get rid of the geese and the simple solution as I have already recommended previously is to stop people feeding them, they will soon disappear.

A few conspicuous signs warning people that they would be fined would be a strong deterrent.

There will be those that will say this could not be effectively policed.

You would only need to catch one person feeding them and fine them and name them in The Press and problem solved.
