THE doom and gloom people who warned of the direst consequences to trade etc should we leave the EU hadn’t looked too closely at the everyday items each and everyone of us use in our daily lives before making their forecasts.

Just how much trade do we carry out with the EU?

I checked a few items in my house and was quite surprised at not seeing one thing from an EU country.

These items are: 1 cordless phone, China; 2 calculator, China; 3 music centre, Malaysia; 4 TV, Japan; 5 crossword solver, China; 6 Fluke multi-meter, USA; 7 Russell Hobbs kettle, China.

Apart from buying BMW and VW cars, from Germany, what else do we get from the EU?

Much has been made about forthcoming trade negotiations with China.

Judging by the above list we already enjoy considerable trade with them.

Farm products from Oz and NZ are already available but “new trade negotiations will now take place between Britain and our ex-Commonwealth partners”.

So, in all our years of EU membership just what did we get from that Colossus?

Massive fish-catch limitations imposed on of our fishermen while giving other EU members free reign to plunder our fishing grounds.

Farmers being given money to keep fields fallow.

We are well out of the EU which, now it’s going to lose millions from Britain, will eventually implode and die.
