THE coalition Tory/Lib Dem council of the city of York seem to be in discombobulating overdrive.
In two reports in The Press (July 21), you report that “Big homes bids delay extended” and on a separate page “Leader waits for options clarity”.
The first only delays even further the start of construction of much needed homes in York. We need the houses urgently. Coalition council, I suggest you get on with it.
The second aspect is that the City of York Council leader appears to be putting on hold the aspect of the city’s devolution plans.
I am totally against any devolution plans if it is connected to the Tory view that devolution can only occur if council’s accept the Tory policy that they would have to comply with what basically means a regional mayor, rather than a Lord Mayor that we already have in York.
There is no reason that I can see for another mayor.
It just adds another form of bureaucracy and therefore adds another cost at the council tax payers’ expense.
The coalition council’s view is that this could put into jeopardy the future of the Northern Powerhouse, but it could well be that what they are envisioning could end up being the Northern Slaughterhouse.
Please city council get things sorted out for the future of those who need homes and for the future of possible incoming industry and business.
