I READ with alarm the situation regarding York City Knights’ use of Bootham Crescent (The Press, July 19).

I thought all was done and dusted. Now, at a crucial stage of the club’s season, a spanner is thrown in the works.

The mockery of it is that it is a technical point, and common sense has been blown out of the window.

The excuse that the pitch is taking too much hammer is ludicrous.

I am a City supporter and have been for 50 years.

I have attended the Knights’ matches in the hope of seeing some entertainment and have been delighted with the games I have seen on a pristine surface.

It is laughable to consider that the pitch is being overused.

The Museum Gardens allows many more people across its lawns each day and does not suffer unduly and this is year round.

So that is just a fudge.

I enjoy my sport and would love to see the Knights playing at a higher level, something I also want for York City, to highlight the city in a good light.

For goodness sake, let the Knights flourish as they deserve.
