YOUR article about new houses having to be rebuilt a few inches from where they currently stand makes a good story but is a non-starter (The Press, July 16).

Three things would have to happen.

Firstly, City of York Council would have to issue an enforcement notice requiring this madness to occur.

Secondly, an appeal inspector appointed by the Secretary of State would have to agree that such an unreasonable notice is upheld.

Thirdly, the Secretary of State would have to accept the inspector’s recommendation to order the houses to be knocked down for a trivial technical breach of planning consent.

There is more chance of me replacing Jeremy Corbyn as leader of the Labour Party.
