ONCE again, Mr Richardson, of Haxby, misleads readers (Letters, July 12) using statistics based on his mistaken view of decimalisation.

As I have previously explained, decimalisation in the UK took place in 1971 - a full two years before accession to the EEC in 1973. Further, one new pence was valued as 2.40 ‘old pence’, ie an inflation of 0%.

And again, he seeks to assert that the de-industrialisation of the country was linked to the EU, rather than recognising the damage done to the UK by the ideological free market policies of the Thatcher Government of the 1980s, which he supported.

Mr Richardson’s “facts” are clearly as soundly based as the Leave campaign’s oft-repeated lie of £350 million per week being paid by the UK to the EU.
