HAROLD WILSON once famously said that “a week in politics is a long time”. Since the EU referendum it seems that the last few days have been more like many decades.

I am extremely concerned that the number of racist abuses have increased not only in York but nationally. We basically have no government and no opposition.

The people of this country spoke on June 23 and they wished to leave the EU. I voted to remain. Difficult as it is, I accept the majority view.

Some people are now calling for a re-run of the referendum citing as the reason that everyone was lied to. That being the case, it could be said that people are lied to at every general election and by all parties.

At the moment, it appears that the Tories are planning to delay the triggering of Article 50 (that kick starts Britain’s divorce from the EU) for as long as possible.

That surely can only lead to further uncertainty among the electorate and the business markets.
