IT may shock some but I agree with Geoff Robb that David Davis would be a better leader of the Conservative Party though probably too principled to be elected (Letters, June 25).

He’s shown real integrity in consistently supporting civil liberty and opposing surveillance and secret courts legislation.

He wasn’t afraid to his criticise party’s plans for trade union reform either even if his “free market” beliefs strike me as naive.

The EU referendum result is being portrayed as a kick against the establishment. Really? Leading that campaign and a front runner to succeed David Cameron is Boris Johnson who also comes from a wealthy family, went to Eton and Oxford, edited The Spectator and writes for the Daily Telegraph. You don’t get more establishment than that.

Leaving the EU was a serious decision but I am left feeling the campaigns were used by unscrupulous politicians to advance their career interests.

A fight between well off chums to divvy up spoils and a magical mystery tour for the rest of us. David Davis did well to keep his distance.
