IRWIN STEIZER, an American author, economist and fellow of the Hudson Institute contends there are six things a successful economy must have – and Britain has them all.
A large economy, the rule of law, the English language, to be in a time zone that allows work 24/7 with economies around the world, world-class businesses in the growing services sector, and a vibrant and exciting culture.
He suggests it is not just what we have, but don’t have. Spain’s 50% youth unemployment, Poland’s anti-democracy drift, France’s unchecked thuggish trade unions, Brussels’ bureaucracy, Italy’s troubled banks and the influx of millions of refugees and other immigrants, nor the EU’s anti-innovation culture.
He suggests “worry not”. There may be transitional costs and difficulties but consider this. Remain and Brussels will know that it can pretty much do what it will with the UK.
Locked in is never a good place to be.
