MIKE RACE says that over 400 democratically elected MPs have declared to remain and less than 200 to leave (Letters, June 14).

What he has not said is that the over 400 are stating their personal opinion and not necessarily the wishes of the electorate who put them there.

He also quotes that the turnout may be 60% or less and that on this basis Britain could leave the EU on the votes of the minority.

He should remember that in the past Prime Ministers have been elected on votes of the minority.

As for a democratically elected Parliament the present Government were elected on promises made prior to the election and to date none have materialised.

In fact some have been dismissed by the very organisation he wishes to be a member of.

In the same letters page Peter Wells states that if we leave the EU we lose Scotland too. Now this is another good reason to vote out.
