THE “Stay in the EU” campaign is now trying to claim, on top of the threat of world war, that jobs will (note “will” not “might”) be lost, incomes reduced, interest rates increased and house prices fall.

When will leaving the EU result in a plague of boils?

I have a simple question for the prime minister posed both directly and via my MP as yet with no response.

If he deems the consequences of leaving to be so disastrous, why did he engineer the referendum in the first place?

I am looking forward to interest rate rises as saving rates have been almost worthless since 2008.

WE RECENTLY had a letter from the council saying that because of cutbacks to funding from the government it would not be possible to subsidise the grass and hedge cuts next year for council tenants.

Fair enough, quite understandable.

They arranged a meeting at West Offices so we could let them know what we thought. Very fair indeed.

However, the letter then went on to say that no-one from the council would be present at the meeting.

Is this a new slant on “consultation”?

REGARDING Cllr Gillies letter (The Press, May 21), I make no apologies for being an ardent Labour Party supporter.

At least I know which party I believe in and exactly what I believe in. I would never cross a political line into coalition with a party that believed in different political views to mine.

This is the complete reverse of his own party that will cosy up to the Lib-Dems both in national government (2010-2015) and now with the City of York Council as from May 2015, again doing anything to gain political control of a council or government.

I was among one of the first to admit that the procedure of closing Lendal Bridge was not without problems and could, indeed should, have been handled in a more professional manner.

Let me remind Cllr Gillies that in the run up to the City of York Council elections in 2015, he stated publicly that if elected he was quite prepared to tear down all the 20mph signs that the Labour administration had erected. I publicly challenge him, via The Press, to inform the electorate of York exactly how many 20mph signs his administration have taken away since May 2015, and in what areas.

Or was that just another Tory statement that has been broken and another U-turn by a Conservative and Lib-Dem administration?

MANUFACTURERS are now talking of making automotive lawn mowers. I don’t know why! A lot of men already own one. It’s called “the Mrs”.

I HAVE never in my life read a letter that reached such heights of hypocrisy as the letter from Mr and Mrs Wardell (Letters, May 20).

They pontificate about the importance of freedom of speech and the danger of gagging certain groups.

Then in the next sentence they demand that the “York Pride march should be banned”.

Perhaps they believe that freedom of speech should only be allowed to people who agree with them.
