Scarcroft Primary School is expanding. Many local residents remain unaware of the City of York Council proposal to possibly utilise Scarcroft Green as a site for a large floodlit Multi Use Games Area (MUGA in the jargon).

If a large MUGA were to be sited on Scarcroft Green, it would have negative impact on the local community and environment. The general public would be further excluded from the open space known as Scarcroft Green. Such a structure erected on Scarcroft Green would further reduce the amenity value of the green to locals and visitors alike.

As a result, local residents have now formed the Friends of Scarcroft Green (FOSG), a group whose mission statement is to keep Scarcroft Green a clean, safe and accessible open space for all York residents to use without restriction.

Historically, Scarcroft Green is a part of Micklegate Stray, legally protected common land. Thus Scarcroft Green should remain open space for use by everyone.

Friends of Scarcroft Green understand formal consultation with local residents will be taking place. Make sure your views are known and your voice is heard about this important community matter.
