I CAN only assume from his letter (How perfect it was without the lights, The Press, May 14) that D McTernan does not do much walking in and around the city centre.
An essential function of traffic signals at junctions such as Bootham/Gillygate and Museum Street/St Leonard’s Place — and elsewhere — is to provide safe crossing periods for pedestrians.
This is hardly “blatantly anti-car”, it is pro-people.
