SHORTLY after reading the article in The Press about the dangerously high pollution levels in York (May 14), I drove through Exhibition Square to find both sides of the road still reduced, using cones, to single lane due to roadworks, but, you’ve guessed it, no roadworks.
The holes that were there were filled all ready for use, ie no restrictions necessary.
I find this disgusting that traffic is held up needlessly, creating delays and pollution.
Whose door do we lay the blame at?
It shouldn’t be up to myself and other correspondents to point out these and other occurrences.
A council officer should be appointed whose sole responsibility is to keep traffic flowing. Someone who could overrule any misguided opinions from higher up. There I go, dreaming again.
