IN 1947, George Orwell wrote a novel called 1984.

It introduced us to the phenomenon of Big Brother, where life is totally controlled by third parties.

In 1975, the British people were fooled into joining the Common Market, which has now morphed into the EU.

By 1984 we were nine years into the control and governance of this sovereign nation being taken over by bureaucrats in Brussels.

Did Orwell predict the future?

So who were the faceless, nameless members of governments and the establishment who acquiesced these powers to Brussels? One could say they are guilty of treason, which is defined as betraying one’s country.

Each day we have to suffer diktats, laws and intrusion into British life coming from the EU, for which we pay £350 million a week. Yes, we know they give a bit back.

The British people have never given the establishment a mandate to relinquish governance of this nation to unelected bureaucrats overseas.

Let’s make June 23 Independence Day, to be celebrated on the same day every year.

It is my birthday on June 20. I hope I can celebrate getting back the sovereign nation I was born into in 1941.
