WHY does York City’s stadium have to move at all?
There is no money available for it, as is proving obvious, and there is no will currently within the city council to progress with existing plans.
If it does move to Monks Cross, there will be a bigger drop in attendances and it will create major problems for visiting fans who arrive by train.
It was a cold, inhospitable place when York City Knights went there, so I cannot there will be any improvement.
Many others that I speak to say the same thing: leave the stadium where it is at Bootham Crescent, take any money available that was going to be used to create the white elephant at Monks Cross and finance the debts and develop Bootham Crescent into a more modern stadium fit for our two relatively small clubs, as both will never reach major status.
There is room to expand if it was ever necessary, into the army barracks.
