I WELCOME Paul Elmhirst’s comments concerning the Parliament Street fountain (Letters, February 3) given they contribute to a public debate about what should or shouldn’t go in its place.
My previous comments related to it serving no purpose as a fountain, which has been evident for some years now.
If the city centre needs more seating then let us consider that, but if we are talking about a central landmark, surely a city as special as York deserves something that enhances the experience for residents and visitors, rather than detracts from it?
Cllr Janet Looker (Labour), Guildhall ward, Clifton Dale, York
