SO the Community Stadium may be delayed yet again (The Press, January 30).

This is a scheme surrounded by secrecy, innuendos, political ill thought out ideas and shear stubbornness.

Now should be the time when councillors take a firm grip and deliver a scheme that has equality for both teams that are destined to be the shared users.

It may need steps backwards to enable progress, and there may well be a cost, but the current proposals are costly, millions of pounds have been borrowed and it would appear there is no substantial pay back to the council.

There could be savings and the opportunity to have better cash returns to the city.

Action needs to be taken now.

What would be unpopular in delay terms (which will not be exceptional) will turn out for the better, for the good of both the clubs and the taxpayers of York.

The attitude of “we will deliver where the opposition didn’t” must be laid to one side and advantage taken of the chance to deliver better and possibly cheaper facilities.

According to the forward plan, the contract for build has not been awarded, so the door for progress is still open.
